Hey everyone! Here is a new shot I just finished up! I wanted to do a creature shot for a long time, so after a few small tests with mechanics I felt I had a good enough understanding to take on a longer sequence. I learned a lot about body mechanics for both bipeds and quadrupeds. I shot reference of myself, for the biped stuff and used reference materials I found online for the panther. It's definitely the most challenging animation I've done to date. The two sections that really kept me up at night were when he switches the bow between hands and draws it, and the last battle shot between the two characters. There was a lot of switching between FK/IK and constraints, but with a solid plan going in it made it a lot more manageable and easier to work with.
Thanks for checking it out!

I just finished up this quick study on the earthbender sequence from the opening of the original Last Airbender. It's nice to do little exercises like this to keep the animation muscles working! Plus studying 2D animation is never a bad thing!

Here's my first attempt at a quadruped walk cycle. This was really fun, but I'm looking forward to doing some more dynamic creature stuff!
Also expect a BIG update soon. I have some great news coming, but I want to stay tight lipped at the moment. Hey everyone! Here is my latest animation test I did while attending CG Spectrum's Rent-A-Mentor program. I must thank my instructor Mark for his amazing critiques and insight. This shots focus on body mechanics, and getting a real sense of weight, although exaggerated. It was a real challenge to get the weight of the car down and took a lot of fine tuning to get it right. Hopefully I was able to achieve that with this animation. Let me know what you guys think!
Again, a huge thanks to my instructor Mark Pullyblank and the guys at CG Spectrum. It was a great experience!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13429713857625310123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-89924296104908942.post-91938828442933120242013-12-18T11:19:00.000-08:002013-12-18T14:45:06.220-08:00PandaPanther!!!

I'm excited to announce I will be starting a Character Animation Internship with PandaPanther in NYC! They've worked on some really cool commercial projects, and most notably, cinematics for the Skylanders video games. I feel really lucky and I can't wait to work on some cool stuff! I will keep you guys updated as much as I can on my journey throughout the internship.
On a side note I've been taking the Rent-a-Mentor workshop at CG Spectrum! My instructor is Mark Pullyblank, previously a Senior Previz Artist at Weta. So far its been a really great experience. I wanted to focus on my body mechanics and together we came up with a solid shot idea. Its great having someone to go over a shot with you right from the conception phase. Its helps get the best ideas out right away, and eliminates a lot of guess work. Mark is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to animation and the industry in general. Every week I take away something new and walk away with a ton of notes. I really recommend it to animators of any level.
Well I can say for sure that I've been hard at work trying to improve as an animator. I had the chance to take the Spungella online workshop with Jean-Denis Haas, Senior animator at ILM! It was a truly eye opening experience and I recommend it to anyone pursuing a career in animation.
Anyways, here's my newest entry for the 11 second club. This is actually my first time using predominately FK arms on a rig. I've always been more of a fan of IK, but I decided to switch things up on this one. It was a fun challenge and I will certainly use FK in the future where I can. Thanks to everyone who gave me crits on the 11 second club forums, they were really helpful! Still would like to do some more polish, just on some of the super small details. Check it!

I entered the 11 sec club this month. The audio was pretty sweet, and since I was at good stopping point on some personal animation, I figured it was a good a time as ever to enter for the first time. I'm happy with the result, but there's still a bit to be done before I add it to my demo reel. Anyways, I had a lot of fun with this one, check it!

My workflow seems to be getting faster, which, is great but i need to push my abilities to get more believable performance. I'm gonna submit my reel to animatedbuzz.com where I can get a critique from one of the professional animators on the site.

I've been hard at work recently on a body mechanics shot. This is part one, of a two part animation I plan on completing based on the Jack and the Beanstalk storyline. So far it's been a good opportunity to work on my arcs, timing, and weight to get realistic, yet cartoony action. I'm only on the first polish pass right now, but I think its working well. Watch this page for updates.
Also, after this one want to work on a couple smaller tests (via advice from Kenny Roy's website). It'll give me a chance to really optimize my workflow, and get solid performances in just 2-4 seconds. So part 2 may have to wait...Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13429713857625310123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-89924296104908942.post-29080629284813566062012-03-15T09:08:00.000-07:002012-03-15T09:08:09.389-07:00BECAUSE WE WERE ARTISTS

Here's a dialogue animation i'm working on that's close to completion. This is only the second shot I've ever done like this, but its a huge step form my last attempt. I really tried to get this one as close as possible to the my reference and thumbnails I drew out . I still think I can push this a bit further, which I will be doing to try and get it to that "next level". As always, crits are welcome!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13429713857625310123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-89924296104908942.post-31394052530091829042012-03-09T15:50:00.000-08:002012-03-09T15:50:19.189-08:00IT HAS BEGUN!
